Carbon wheelsets used to be the one component where You would have to pay a lot of money to get good quality component. That has shifted quite a bit over the past couple of wheels and this wheelset is a prime example of such. At less than 400 USD (!!!), the 10Plus T-Series Carbon Wheels are a serious contender for one of the best entry level carbon wheelsets out there. So lets take a closer look!
What you get for the money
The 10PLUS T-Series is a 700c carbon disc brake wheelset with centre-lock rotor mounts and thru-axle fitment (12x100 front, 12x142 rear) - so all of the modern specs are well represented here. The hub uses a 36-tooth star ratchet engagement system - the same mechanism used by DT Swiss in their more expensive hubs. Spokes are Pillar 1423 bladed aero spokes, which are a known quantity in the wheel building world and a genuine upgrade over the generic J-bend round spokes found in cheaper wheelsets. The freehub is Shimano HG compatible, with XDR and Campagnolo options available at order.
At under $400 shipped, this puts the 10PLUS in the same territory as entry-level aluminium wheelsets from major brands — except these are full carbon with a hub mechanism that has no business being at this price point.
Build quality and first inspection
The package arrived very well padded. The packaging was thick and there was no damage, no scratches, nothing that would lead to a sour taste. The carbon layup is clean. No visible voids, no dry patches, and the brake track area is smooth and consistent. The centre-lock interface on the hub is machined well — my rotors seated flush without any play whatsoever. The thru-axle fitment is precise. Both wheels dropped into my fork and rear triangle without needing to wrestle them into position and actually, I did not even have to adjust my brake piston positioning. So all in all, the tolerances are very good!
What was a serious surprise was that the wheelset came in completely setup tubeless ready with valves and tubeless rim tape already in place. A big time saver for me! The decals are tasteful. They are subtle enough that the wheels do not scream "budget" from across the car park, which matters more than it should but matters nonetheless. I also find the decals to be much more appealing than the rather large ones of the Elitewheels ENT Drives.
The star ratchet hub
This is the headline feature for me. A 36-tooth star ratchet gives you 10 degrees of engagement — meaning the rear wheel picks up drive almost instantly when you start pedalling. If you have ever ridden a freewheel with poor engagement and felt that quarter-pedal-stroke delay before the wheel responds, you know why this matters. Coming out of corners, accelerating in a group, or picking up pace after a coast — the response is immediate and crisp.
The hub sound is a moderate buzz. Not silent, not obnoxiously loud such as the Elitewheels ENT Drive 1.0 I used to ride before. It sits in the range where you can hear it when coasting but it does not dominate the soundscape of a quiet road. I have no complaints here - the sound is actually really quite nice.
Weight
The claimed weight for the set is in the mid-1600 gram range depending on rim depth, which is competitive for a carbon disc wheelset at this price. Mine came in at about 1680g, which is not super light - which wasnt expected - but still for context, a Shimano 105 wheelset weighs roughly 1800 grams. So we are not just saving some weight here against basic aluminium wheels but also we get a serious aero advantage.
What I cannot tell you yet
This is a first impression, not a verdict. I have ridden these wheels for less than 200 km. I cannot tell you how they will hold up over a season of hard riding, but I will put them to the test over the next couple of months. I set these up tubeless with the Continental GP5000s in 30mm.
What I can tell you after the first few rides is that these wheels feel genuinely good. The acceleration is sharp, the ride quality is smooth without being vague, and the lateral stiffness under out-of-the-saddle efforts is very much confidence-inspiring. Nothing about these wheels feels like a compromise — and at under $400, that is a remarkable statement!
Early verdict
If you are considering a carbon wheelset upgrade and your budget sits below $400, the 10PLUS T-Series deserves serious attention. The star ratchet hub and Pillar spokes elevate it above the anonymous carbon wheels that flood AliExpress listings with no brand accountability. I will follow up with a full long-term review once I have put real mileage on them. For now, I am cautiously impressed — and looking forward to the next thousand kilometres.
